At SALT we are passionate about connection, community, and ocean conservation. We want every one of our pieces to create meaningful conversation around minimizing our environmental impact, in your home and on the go. In this way, we hope that we can be a part of lasting change leading us towards a more conscious future.

Our curated collection is filled with sustainable items for a mindful life. We value the people behind our products and what they stand for. With a focus on slow fashion, we aim to help you build a simple, classic, and comfortable wardrobe you love that suits every season. We design with intention so that our pieces are long lasting and multi-functional. Inspired by our Pacific Northwest coastlines, our eco-conscious fabrics respect our natural surroundings both in source and in style. Designed locally, and sewn in Vancouver, we like to keep our operations close to home.

We try to live the messages that we spread. More than anything else, that is being conscious of our impacts. We want how we treat the Earth, each other, and ourselves to guide our daily lives. That includes what we purchase, what we eat, and how we communicate.

MEET THE FOUNDER - Jessica Wilson

SALT comes from the vision of our founder Jessica Wilson.

She started SALT in April of 2016, although she has been running her own clothing brands since 2006. SALT is inspired by the saltwater of the ocean, and Jessica’s home of Salt Spring Island, the two things that keep her calm and grounded.  Jessica was raised on the sea. Whether she was sailing through Desolation Sound, or swimming in warm Caribbean waters, it has always been her favourite place. She makes time spent exploring it’s depths, coastlines, and creatures a priority and almost never goes a day without interacting with it in some way.

Jessica’s approach to business is pretty simple - put your people first and do good for the planet. If you’re not making the world a better place, what is the point?

Mindful fashion has always been a part of her work and her lifestyle. She wants people to feel good in their clothes, because they make them comfortable and because they are supporting a company who is trying to do right. She loves using SALT to connect to her community, and to connect her community to the ocean.

Leading others into an exciting life is Jessica’s biggest joy. She sees her staff as an extension of her family, and does whatever she can to help them achieve their goals. If you are lucky enough to be in her life, she is committed to your growth as much as she is her own.

Her drive to push forward is ever evolving, as is her daily routine. Jessica is our Designer, both graphic and fashion, she is our leader, she is our dreamer. With no formal design or business training, she has created a company that allows her to raise awareness around living consciously, and produce clothing that is kind to the planet and the people who wear it. Her work is dynamic, collaborative, and challenging - and she wouldn’t have it any other way.

Jessica approaches all aspects of her life and her business with compassion. She wants everyone to be in touch with their joys, their fears, and to pursue the heck out of their dreams.

Stacey Nowak

  • Victoria Store Manager & Media Team.
  • Started with SALT: November 2017
Stacey lives in Victoria, B.C. and lends her good vibes and passion for customer service to our Fort St shop. As part of the Media Team, Stacey makes sure our weekly articles and newsletters are never without images, and is an integral part of all our event planning. At home, she is most likely found working with her hands making sun catchers, gardening, or spending time in nature at her family’s cabin. Stacey grounds herself with wholesome food, regular yoga, and trips to the beach with her son Dylan to collect treasures and explore tidal pools. She believes that the Universe is looking out for us - guiding our paths and presenting opportunities; it is our job to listen and act.

Emily Williams

  • SSI Store Manager. Media & Community Manager.
  • Started with SALT: March 2017

Emily lives on Salt Spring Island & keeps an eye on our flagship store. She spends most of her time at SALT behind the keyboard, attending to our weekly Journal and anything else that requires the written word. When she’s not at her laptop, you’ll find her either in the kitchen trying a new recipe, hosting a dinner for friends, or working on a home improvement project with her husband. Spending a sunny afternoon with an enthralling book on the beach, listening to the waves wash in and admiring the horizon, is her ideal way to appreciate the beauty of our ocean. She tries to live her life by the words “Decide that you want it more than you are afraid of it.” She dares you to do the same.
