The Dorothy Sweater
This is a Pre-order
estimated to ship Nov 22
A sweater as beautiful as it is functional, the Dorothy Sweater combines expert craftsmanship and natural wool with the rugged spirit of the outdoors. This sweater pays homage to the enduring legacy of Canada’s oldest sailboat, Dorothy.
Every stitch is designed for the adventurer at heart. Wether you sharing stories around an evening beach fire in September, hoisting sails in the crisp spring air, or beach combing barefoot along the shoreline in October, Dorothy will be your constant companion.
Made from premium wool, known for its natural ability to insulate, wick moisture, and breathe, the Dorothy Sweater is built to weather all of life’s journeys. The tapered sleeves ensure your hands are always free to move, safe from rogue sparks and snags, while the raised neckline shields you from wind and cold. She is an heirloom piece, designed to accompany you through a lifetime of exploration.

About Dorothy, Canada's oldest sailboat
Designed in 1892 by UK naval architect Linton Hope, Dorothy is a 30-foot carvel-built, gaff-rigged, twin-headsail sloop. Commissioned by barrister and Clerk-of-the-Legislative Assembly William H. Langley and constructed in John J. Robinson’s boatyard in Victoria Harbour. She launched in 1897.
For 47 years Langley kept her racing and cruising the Salish Sea. Since then, she's had thirteen different owners who have continued to add their own unique touches to the historic yacht.
In 1995 Dorothy was donated to the Maritime Museum of British Columbia by then owner Kim Pullen. The museum, along with Gabriola Island shipwright Tony Grove, the Ladysmith Maritime Society, and boatwright Robert Lawson spent 12 years working to bring her back to sail-ready and historically accurate condition.
She returned to the water in 2023 looking like the day she first launched 127 years ago. Today Dorothy is an integral piece of the MMBC's collection and an active part of the marine community through participation in youth sailing programs, festivals and more.
